Harikatha Review Web Series

The trend of digital entertainment has grown rapidly in India. Every month new stories, new topics and new experiments are seen on OTT platforms. In this episode, Hotstar recently released its new web series Harikatha Review. This is a South Indian web series, which has created a lot of enthusiasm among the audience. Its trailer and posters had already made it a topic of discussion.

The special attraction of this series is its theme, which connects religion, God and mystery together. But did this series live up to the expectations of the audience? Let’s know through this review.

Story: A confluence of religion and mystery
The story of Harikatha Review begins in a small village, where suddenly incidents of murder start happening. These murders happen mysteriously and are investigated by an officer, who himself is a member of a family trapped in a murder case in the same village.

During the investigation, the question arises whether there is a divine power behind these murders, or is it the result of a human conspiracy?

The story also mentions the incarnations of Lord Vishnu, which makes it more interesting. But has the story been able to present this mystery correctly?

Positive Points: Good concept but…

  1. Concept:
The biggest plus point of the series is its concept. The mixture of religion, mystery and murder mystery is a unique and new attempt. The reference to the incarnations of Lord Vishnu adds curiosity to the story and keeps the audience engaged in the beginning.
  2. Short season:
This series is limited to only six episodes, which helps the audience to watch and understand it quickly.
  3. Some interesting scenes:
There are some scenes in the story that make you think about what is going to happen next. Especially the way of showing the incarnations of God is effective.

Negative Points: Failed execution

  1. Weak presentation:
The stronger the concept, the weaker its execution. There is a big disconnect in the flow of the story. There is no chance to understand the relationship between the characters and the sequence of events in depth.
  2. Lack of characters:
No attempt was made to show the main characters in depth. It feels that the characters are incomplete and their journey fails to connect you emotionally.
  3. Production quality:
In today’s time where big films and web series come with high quality production, “Harikatha” feels very ordinary in this case. VFX, background music, and cinematography fail to impress the audience.
  4. Lack of thrill and mystery:
The thrill and suspense that should be there in a murder mystery is not felt here. Instead of staying tied to the story till the end, the audience starts getting bored in the middle.

Devotional angle: Hit or miss?
The mention of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu in “Harikatha” makes it special. This devotional angle takes the story in a different direction, but its use was not completely right. If this angle was presented in a better way, it could have impressed the audience more.

Is this series worth watching?

Viewers should not have high expectations to watch “Harikatha”. It is a good effort, but it cannot be appreciated much due to its lack of execution. If you are a fan of crime drama and devotional angle, then you can watch it once, but do not expect the level of big budget films and web series.

Rating For Harikatha: 6/10
This series deserves appreciation for the concept, but due to weak story, incomplete characters and ordinary production quality, it cannot be given high rating.
Series like “Harikatha” can be seen as a new beginning on Indian OTT platforms. But it could not bring novelty in its story and presentation to bind the audience.

If you are curious for new stories and enjoy South Indian series, then you can watch it. But if you are looking for high quality and impactful story, then this series is not for you. Hope the makers correct these flaws in the next season and bring a better product. Till then, if you have watched it, do share your thoughts.
